Rangers unified Ndigbo after Civil War — Ex-players

ENUGU—Natives and sympathizers who thronged Agubuowa, in Ezeagu, Local Government Area of Enugu State for the funeral rites of late Mr. Thomas Ezenwa Anibeze,elder brother to Onochie Anibeze, Editor, Saturday Vanguard, were thrilled amid tears,to witness the presence of ex-Supper eagles and Coach,Christian Chukwu,Sylvanus Okpala among others. The group,numbering over 20 stormed Ogwuosha Onu-ata, the ancestral home of the Anibeze’s to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them in their moment of grief. Chairman,ex-Rangers and All Stars,Christian Chukwu told Saturday Vanguard that,”Onochie has been part of us,irrespective of where anybody is. He (Onochie) is part of the Rangers family and All Stars. You remember that he once played football too.   Personally,I am a family friend in involved in whatever the family is doing. “That is why ex-Rangers and All Stars players are here. I am bent on sustaining the bond among the members. We have   approached various state governments for welfare of members because of our age and so on. The Anambra State Government responded very well through former Governor Peter Obi who gave an 18-seater bus which we used in coming here. “He(Obi) equally placed us on a stipend of N10,000 salary every month. The present governor,Willie Obiano came and saw it and said no,that he is part of Rangers and he increased it. With all this,it is bringing all of us together and reviving those who are aging and ill. We are very much united and are equally involved in the current Rangers management team to ensure that they do well. “We have the intention of approaching Enugu Governor,Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. We are trying to give him time because he is new on the seat. We will approach Abia and Ebonyi State governors too. Enugu Rangers is a movement. After the Civil War,it was Rangers that brought the Ndigbo back in the comity of nations in Nigeria. So we will approach all the south-east geopolitical zone governors to ensure that they contribute to the welfare of the heroes”. Late Thomas Anibeze,aged 63, a master Saxophonist died on January 30 at the Lagos University Teaching Hosptial, LUTH, following respiratory failure. He is survived by Wife, Catherine Anibeze and children, Lauretta, Chinedu, Cyprian, David Anibeze.
