Etisalat Nigeria has announced its membership to a global leader in occupational safety, health and environmental management, the British Safety Council. This achievement demonstrates the company’s commitment to keeping people safe and healthy at work. The decision to admit Etisalat as a registered member of the occupational health advisory body was arrived at following a review of its operational safety procedures, which proved the company’s strong commitment to the health and safety of workers. According to the Director of Security at Etisalat Nigeria, Muhammad Abubakar, the company’s tradition of putting people first reflects the goal of the British Safety Council which seeks to improve global occupational safety standards. “The British Safety Council advocates a uniform global standard for occupational safety and health, to ensure the well-being of the world’s workforce, regardless of geographical location”, Abubakar said. He highlighted that this “membership, therefore, means we have a reliable yardstick for evaluating our occupational health and safety processes based on international best practices, which can only improve our service delivery and reinforce our reputation for innovative customer service”. The Etisalat brand has been on ascendancy in 2014, its sixth year of operations in Nigeria, hitting the 20 million subscriber mark and winning several awards, including the highly sought after Telecom Brand of the Year award; the Best Brand in Impactful Retail Design and Merchandising and the Best Company in Partnership for Development. Other accolades that the company has won include; ‘Best Telecom Customer Service’, Telecom Innovations Company of the Year’; ‘Most
Innovative Corporate Social Responsibility Company’; ‘Catalyst for Change’ and ‘Best Quality of Service’ among others.
